What is Pond Hockey?
Who would have thought that back in the late 1800s, when a group of friends hit the ice for a little friendly competition, that it would someday turn into Canada's great sports legacy. Today Pond Hockey still harkens back to the roots of the game. Click here to see how it's played.
Why Play?
Better question - Why not! How often can you say that you are going to get together with your pals, out of town, play hockey, party and it's all for a good cause. The instances are few and far between. Take advantage of this legitimate, recreational, getaway weekend. And, oh ya, did we say road trip!

Volunteers Needed
We need your help! The Taylor Cup Pond Hockey Championship needs volunteers to assist with our tournament that will see over 200 hockey enthusiasts take to the ice, on Sparrow Lake, just north of Orillia, for a 3-day event in support of The Princess Margaret Sarcoma Research Fund. There are few rules and even less equipment – it’s 4 on 4 pick-up hockey that you played as a kid only with more teams and a beer tent within skating distance! Hosted by Bayview-Wildwood Resort, The Taylor Cup will see 36 teams compete in a weekend round robin tournament, celebrating our nation’s pastime in its purest form.
DATE: February 1st – 3rd, 2008
LOCATION: Bayview-Wildwood Resort
(18km NW of Orillia)
TIME: 8am – 4pm
Requirements
We need some hale and hearty types, as much of the time will be spent outdoors. Must be able to commit to a minimum of a 3-hour shift. Specifically, we are looking for people to fill the following volunteer position:
Pond Marshals (19+ years of age)
To oversee 30 minute games. Duties include: starting & stopping the games on time; arbitrating on disputes (minor penalties are called by each team) & calling major penalties (verbal abuse, intentional hits, etc.). Games are 30 minutes in length (2-15 minute halves) with a 5-minute break between periods. Training provided. For more information, check out “About the Game”.
